Rashkis Elementary School

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools | Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Mel & Zora Rashkis Elementary School is one of the centers of activity in the Meadowmont community of Chapel Hill, and provides high quality, high performance educational facilities for the students.

The design of the development is based on new urban concepts promoting a highly integrated community combining residential and recreational spaces within walking distance of commercial, retail and institutional facilities. The new elementary school is a neighborhood school and was carefully designed to be a focal point of community activities. Through a collaborative effort between the Town of Chapel Hill, the School System and the developer, a partnership was created for the joint use of the building and the play fields. A community gymnasium accommodates the School’s needs, as well as the Town’s recreational programs. A separate entrance and support spaces allow for after-hours use while maintaining security for the remainder of the school.
