Orange County | Hillsborough, North Carolina
The adaptive reuse and repurposing of a vacant, former Walmart provides the Orange County Department of Social Services room to grow as the county develops.
The Orange County Department of Social Services recently moved from cramped, inadequate office space into a bright and spacious center in Hillsborough. Just months earlier that center had been a vacant big box store which had no future as a retail space. Instead Orange County purchased the property and had the vision of transforming it into valuable county office space. The renewed social services center is anchored by two large, skylit atria that allow natural light to penetrate deep into the office spaces. The front entrance was redesigned to enhance the visibility from the street and to provide a safe and secure environment for its clients.
