Town of Chapel Hill | Chapel Hill, North Carolina
From the outset of the Chapel Hill Town Operations Center, three overarching goals guided the design and construction efforts: sustainable development, environmental sensitivity and fiscal prudence.
The facility relocates and consolidates the Transportation and Public Works Departments on an 88-acre campus. The 155,000sf complex consists of four main buildings and eight outbuildings housing the Public Works Administration, Field Operations, Fleet Maintenance Divisions and the Transportation Administration, Operations and Bus Maintenance Divisions. A variety of sustainable features were implemented to conserve resources, reduce energy usage and protect the environment including a geothermal heating and air conditioning system and natural daylighting strategies.
