The Carolina Media and Communications Center started out to satisfy the requirements of the ACC Network. It quickly transformed into a multi-functional facility that gives students in the media and journalism program real world experience on campus.
CRA worked with several UNC Athletic Department programs, including GoHeels Productions and Athletic Communications, to develop a 13,500 sf, two story building in a prominent location beside the Dean Smith Center. Housed in a modern glass exterior featuring a large video monitor, the lower level contains state-of-the-art broadcast facilities, including a production studio and several control rooms. Upstairs is a comfortable open-office plan for about 30 staff members. This facility is not just about the ACC Network. GoHeels and the athletics communications department have a strong relationship with the Hussman School of Journalism and Media, which already sends many of its students across campus to work on live productions.
