Carolina Center for Educational Excellence

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools | Chapel Hill, North Carolina

The Carolina Center for Educational Excellence (CCEE) is a joint-venture between the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and the UNC School of Education to be a distance learning center for the state of North Carolina.

Constructed as an addition to Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill, the CCEE provides state-of-the-art technology and broadcast capabilities so that teacher training sessions can be attended by teachers from the mountains to the coast.  The classrooms provide appropriate interaction between the instructors and the participants through an enhanced teleconferencing system.  The Science Classroom is specifically designed to train the teachers on the most current techniques and experiments they can replicate in their own classrooms.  The project also extends the sustainable features from the existing middle school including natural daylighting, rainwater harvesting for flushing and irrigation, and high-efficiency HVAC systems.
